Hi I've a 1990 500 bullet. I lost compression this week and traced it to a failed push rod that I replaced with parts from our host. On reassembly I set both rods to zero back lash as advised here. I found it quite hard to start and idle and on riding has developed a popping from the exhaust, all else seems fine, rides well and plenty of power. Today I slacked off the rods a knats chaff , just to see if they were to tight but still the same. I know one common cause for this is carb setting, but don't want to go down that route until I'm sure it's nothing else. Does anyone have any ideas .
Regards
Mike

Audible popping from the exhaust can start with something as simple as a pothole.

It would appear to be something to do with the breakdown / repair as the bike was running fine before the push rod failed?
