There is no security bolt in the rear rim of my 2009 EFI. I am embarking on a minor expedition (to the Isle of Man) in a couple of months and wondered whether any one had experienced trouble with tyre creep due to this omission? I seem to recall a valve being ripped out some years ago on my 2002 iron engine Classic and was considering having a security bolt fitted to avoid a similar experience. Realistically do I need to?

I don't think you need to worry about fitting a security bolt. If you are worried about tyre creep slacken off the valve retaining nut and keep an eye on the valve stem. Any problem with creep will be indicated by the valve stem moving out of vertical.
I live in the Isle of Man and we have plenty of tyre dealers and an RE dealer, Paul Deadman, in Ramsey if you get stuck.

Not anything I have experienced with 27k miles on the clock now on the fourth rear tyre and second front. On another thread there was a discussion about the tyres being suitable for tubeless use, so perhaps the tighter seal on the bead is all you need to eliminate creep. Enjoy your trip to the IoM - is it for the TT? I was at Oliver's Mount this w/e - awesome racing. A mere 400 miles each way (up Friday and back today) and the old girl didn't miss a beat.

Tyre pressure too low is usually the cause. Workshop manual for the Bullet upgraded the pressure, says 32psi Front-36psi-Rear. Whereas the Handbook says, 18- 22.

Thanks all. I think that the tyre pressure issue is probably crutial.
Always wanted to go to Isle of Man but hate crowds so wife and I are booked for mid September. Very odd, I know!
