Hi again, Thanks for all your replies. Seen to have opened a bit of a can of worms, so around 2000. Is there any way of telling which decade from the engine number.

Back again, just had a thought roughly when did they move the gear change from right to left hand, the bikes I have seen are right hand.

I just looked at the Intellectual Property Rights Court judgement in favour of Enfield India and it is dated 21st July 2000 so that timing fits in with what you've been saying. Add in a few months for parts to make their way through the system, obviously. I seem to recall Enfield India made quite a big thing of it at the time.

Oh well it looks like I got the time correct but the reason wrong. I think the UK bikes got royal on the tank in 2000 but for some reason the home market not until 2003.

It depends where in the world you were, Frank, and which model you bought. UK and Indian domestic market 4 speed bikes were right foot shift until the end of the classic model's production. The last UK 4 speed models were imported in 2007 and sold off over 2008/9, the last of the old 350s for the Indian market were built around 2010.

Export 4 speed bikes for the US and I think European market had a very clunky left-foot shift conversion introduced in 1994, according to Gordon May's book "Made in India" (Question for Leon and Tim, did Australian and NZ for-speeders go left-foot shift too?). The five speed gearbox versions of the classic and lean burn models came in about 2003 and were left-foot shift as standard unless converted to right-foot.

The EFI/UCE models first appeared in 2008 (2009 in the UK) and were left foot shift from the start, no right-foot shift conversions are available for these.

Hi my year2000 bullet 350 had royal Enfield on the tank black with gold lining.I changed the tank two years ago for a chrome one it still has royal Enfield on it in red lettering.it has high bars and a solid single seat because that's what I like.

Just to add fuel to the fire. My 1999 500 Lightening has Enfield on the tank, but Royal Enfield on the engine.

Hi again, I have seen a couple of bullets with heavy crank conversions, 350 with a 500 top end and crank. Is this a common thing and are they any good.
