Nigelphoto: Dave Woods Racing is the dealer from whom I bought my C5 in September 2015. His main business is tuning bikes on a dyno; he was a very successful racer a while ago. His son is now racing. When he took on RE he told me he had seen Guy Martin's programme on India and had liked the look and sound of the Bullet he was riding. As he already had a sideline in selling some of the better Chinese scooters imported by MotoGB, when he realised that they now did REs he decided to sell them. The last time I looked in his shop some of the original line-up (ie 2015 stuff) was still there, together with an unsold blue LE Despatch (I bought his green one). He has now taken on Husqvarna, though I wonder whether he'll have more luck with those niche bikes. As for the twin it'll be deja vu methinks - too little too late. Given the burgeoning range of the highly successful current Triumph twins the RE twin will have to be something special, assuming the market isn't saturated by the time it is launched. Also, they won't get away with overpricing the twin because it is bound to be at a higher price point than the singles and that will put it up against really desirable bikes (from the market viewpoint, not necessarily my own) like the Ducati Scambler range and various Japanese offerings. I suspect that most buyers of the current models except the CGT are old timers who are predisposed to that sort of bike - a shrinking market especially as bigger bikes become too heavy. The CGT is more of a fashionable urban chic type of bike that is likely to be bought by younger people. The twin will need to be more like that IMHO, otherwise it'll only sell to existing RE owners trading up. Unless RE radically alters its strategy I doubt they'll ever be a big player in Europe, even though their total production is higher than many of the more mainstream manufacturers.

Rattlebattle I think you're right on the money. Sad to say but I have a sneaking feeling that RE will disappear altogether in Europe and the US with such meagre export figures. The crunch will come in a few months when the Himalayan and all other Euro IV fail to appear. I'm sure the brand is a bloody nuisance to MotoGB and I can't see Chenai bothering with a special line to produce export models any more - with a six month waiting list in the home market and a production of half a million units a year why would they? Never mind, we've got Mr and Mrs H to keep us going for ever and we'll get our money back as our EFI's become a rarity in a few years time!

The euro IV bikes are already here, they were at the bike show in London last weekend along with the Himalayan, which my local dealer is advertising for arrival at Easter. I keep looking at what I might replace the Electra EFI with when it finally expires and, despite their limitations, keep coming back to Enfield as the rational choice for the riding I do. The Himalayan will be a cracking bike if it rides as well as it looks and really does have the potential to take the essence of Enfield forward. Just look at the figures - twice the torque at half the revs of its nearest rival - Kawasaki's versys 300. If they price it right I will be in the queue. If they make a Himalayan version of the twin, with the same low down power characteristic I would have my deposit down already. For their home market and export markets RE cannot rely on a range of increasingly anachronistic leisure bikes. The new designs have real usability that seems very rare in motorcycle design - but why does it take them so long to get them to market?

Jack the Lad I think you may find that the Himalayan at the London Show is the same one that appeared at Motorcycle Live before Christmas - in which case it had no engine internals. MotoGB have put the Euro IV models into various shows to 'gauge dealer and customer reactions'. i.e. there's no commitment to import them at the moment. For the imminent launch of a new model why haven't there been any tests by the motorcycle press to date?

Plenty of dealers have the new euro IV Enfields, including my local one. I did see a road test in a UK publication, but can't remember which one.
