When I tickle the carb on my 1960 connie the carb just floods and will not stop running petrol through the carb .I have replaced the FLOAT NEEDLE and cleaned the carb out.The FLOAT is good also ,but it has had no effect. Does anyone have any ideas.

make sure the tickler is not sticking down,does it have a spring return,if so is the spring broken.

I had this trouble with the new Monobloc I fitted to my Tiger 100. It turned out to be the float pivot sticking. A bit of judicious fettling prevented the float from sticking when the float bowl side cover was refitted. Apart from what has already been mentioned I can't see what else it could be unless the float needle seating is worn or the float is punctured.

Hi Walter, sound as though you've covered just about everything. The only other thing is did you replace the small brass spacer on the float spindle between the float and the chamber lid?

If it's a monobloc have you put a fibre washer under the petrol feed pipe mounting?, if so remove it, they don't have one but some people think they should, it stops the float needle reaching high enough to seal the inlet.

Actually, thinking about it some more, the issue I had was the one to which Dutto alluded. It was the little brass bush. The spindle was binding on it when the float bowl side cover was replaced. A little gentle filing resolved the problem.

Dennis makes a good point. The washer is included in kits because some later carbs required one.

Thanks for the replies, I have run fuel down the fuel line into the carb (it is a monobloc) by the way, with the float cover off and the needle
held up manually by the float to cut off the fuel. but the float appears to hit the tickler before the needle actually sits up tight against the
needle housing inside. The float needle is a new replacement from yours truly .I have had this bike since 1978 stood it in dry storage for the past 4 years when it last ran, never had an issue then or before then so its a mystery why it"s playing up now, any more thoughts ANYBODY??
