Ha ha Scalyback. Back in the day of young rugrats, no money and cheap bikes as main form of transport I had an old cx 500 (don't go there) and later an srx 600 (great bike but watch out for auto correct when spelling it) that both had rusty tanks, crud in petrol, lots of carb stripping etc etc. Much cheaper than a new tank and never had a problem with it. Interestingly had a much older c15 once with no rust. Pre ethanol. Ethanol will mix with water.. is this a way of adding water to petrol.....?? In order for there to be condensation there needs to be water vapour. Where does the water come from?

POR15 tank seal kit is brilliant. Had in a couple of my tanks for years. Polyurethane one pot tank liner with powerful washing agent and a phosphoric acid tank prep. Definitive job imho.

AndyMc, I think Scalyback's humour was directed at me?

and whilst all my bikes are of course impeccably maintained (ahem!) I don't go looking for work and fixing things that may in fact be perfectly alright if left alone.

Adding sealant to a tank if not absolutely necessary could fall into that category IMHO.

Having said that, I would heartily second the recommendation for POR 15 (available from Frost's). I used it on a Jeep tank years ago (definitely necessary in this case, the bottom of the tank was covered in pin holes and porous) and it did exactly what it said on the tin. Plus, being developed in the USA you can be sure it can cope with ethanol.
