My Interceptor mk1a is due for a new battery,and fitted with a Boyer mk3 igniton.As i have a near new one sitting in my ES Bullet (decommissioned)i thought i would just use that,naturally it's much more powerful (14 amp)than the original Interceptor battery.Is it going to be safe to use it?it fits perfectly on the rubber base plate.Want to take it out on Sunday for a decent ride.

Our Flash & a Box has been happy for years with a pair of 6v 11ah batteries, what the original fitment was I cannot remember, so use it and go for your Sunday ride

I rather like the idea of using an Interceptor as a battery charger for the E/S Bullet while it's laid up... ) A.

The Interceptor *must* be 12V !! The ES has a more powerful battery because it is electric start, the ES also has a more powerful generator. The Interceptor may not be able to fully charge that battery but that won't stop it using it. The more powerful the battery, the more charge it takes to fully charge it. If it doesn't keep the battery topped up the volts will eventually go down (discharged) and you will put it on a charger. I've seen a bike use a big car battery as a get-you-home, but it couldn't keep it charged.

O dear, O dear, O dear. Jeff, the battery size is irrelevant if the alternator is supplying more than the bike is using the battery will remain charged.

Quite right Dennis, the size is quite irrelevant. If the Interceptor can keep a 5ahr battery charged in use then it can keep a 50ahr battery charged. Especially as it's not getting hammered by a starter motor.

I agree with Jeffers, if more is coming out the battery that the alternator/ dynamo can put in then yes the battery will slowly/ quickly go down
If the reverse is the case then I agree with Dennis

For jefrs' benefit someone on ebay in the USA was selling some Series 1A bits a while back, I see much evidence of 12 voltery here.







And IS the E/S Bullet alternator more powerful than the Lucas 12V item on the Interceptor? The Electra-X was a three-phase japanese-style item, but the classic E/S models still have the AC lighting, which has its own reserved stator coils, meaning only a PART of the stator's output is going into keeping the battery charged for ignition/indicarors/side, stop and brake lights, horn, starter and anything else I might have forgotten.
