I don't look all the way round to the back anyway. Surely the purpose of a lifesaver is a quick check in the blind spot(s)

Surely the purpose of a lifesaver is to satisfy yourself that something is not going to come up your side and hit you as you turn or change lanes.

Exactly how you do it or how long you glance for will be up to the individual, but the purpose is in it's name.
