Collected the MZ headlamp from the sorting office today, the shell is a bit bulkier than the MCH61 but not too much, hopefully it will fit without any need for hacking the rear about. Yes the MZ rim DOES take a standard 7" light unit, and a normal 80mm speedo fits too, which is nice. A.

As you can see the MZ item has a fatter *rse than the Lucas offering (not that that will be too obvious behind the headlamp brackets). Reflector unit is a 7" Autopal H4. I could still fit the MZ ignition switch at the risk of it's heritage becoming too obvious, but I have found (and ordered) something more decorative that will mask the hole beautifully.
