Does anyone know why this Smiths 120 mph chronometric has its 0 and 120 at the bottom, with the needle sweeping around the top when all 120's I've seen have 0 and 120 at the top with the needle sweeping round the bottom. I know 150 mph ones on constellations are in this configuration but have never seen another 120 one like it. Its not original to the bike (59 500) but a recent purchase and works really well. What was it originally off?

It's the sort of thing you might find chronicled (good word for Sunday evening, isn't it?) in Scaly's Junk, do a search, though I'm sure the man himself will gladly post a link.

It was worth getting the bracket sorted, at least! Original fitment or not, it is certainly period and looks quite at home.

(caught out...)

No idea, unless it is for Australia as the magnetic rotation would be the other way around?

Wow Scaly.....how it wuz done back in the day eh?
I can't see that being done at the station garage these days - (Station? What station?)
And all those people employed by Smiths.... Are they still trading by the way? I would think maybe not.

papasmurf - Is that the same company that produced the electrical, mechanical and instrumentation for British cars ?
