Hi,

Is this the right place for this sort of thing?

Mid June '17, I plan to float down to Bilbao, bimble around NW Spain taking in Santiago de Compestella and back through the Picos de Europa via Leon. The total route mileage in Spain is about 790 miles spread over a week in Spain and the cost should be about £450 including ferry fares+acccomodation but not including food/fuel etc. I am taking my '02 500 Bullet so no huge speeds or ultra long distances - average daily slog about 110miles. The weather should be warm but not the mega heat of mid-year and the Costa Verde is a lot more agreeable than Southern Spain.

I am not organising a group merely throwing out a suggestion if anyone wants some company on a medium sized adventure but doesn't fancy doing it alone.

Anyone still up for a bimble before age takes its toll? PM for more details.......

I must admit that sounds interesting and I am sure a lot of folk on here would think likewise. Keep us posted with your planning. Never been there and a bimble on the continent sounds good. I was planning a cycle ride to Compestella a few years ago but........

Sounds great. I went to the Picos Mountains in 2003 on my Norton 19S. The area is ideal for a big single, though make sure your brakes are in fine fettle. I didn't know I could lock both wheels on my old Norton; faced with undenied sheer drops on bends I found out I could. Wish I still had that old thumper...

Enjoy your trip.

Hi, I don't think I can manage this, but your costs seem very good - do you mind if I ask how/where you got the ferry prices so good? When I looked at a week or two mid June, 1 rider and enfield came up as ~£450 just for the ferry. (Obvs. cheaper if you share a cabin - was the same price for rider and pillion as just for rider).

Hi,

How can we do it so cheap, we don't handle any money and all bookings are the responsibility of the individual, we learnt not to get involved in money as we are merely providing a list of places and convivial company. Also some folk might not want to visit the same attractions but do want to share time on the road for mutual support. Surely that's the point of a rideout?

We booked very early and use the Economie service. All accomodation is definitely no-frills using Ibis Formulae 1 and other basic motels around Eu30 per night.

HOWEVER, we have altered the itinerary, we are now travelling Bilbao to Cherbourg to take advantage of the Wheels and Waves event in Biarritz.

All times/dates/locations and other details are on this website: http://dorsetpals.blogspot.co.uk/

Other than the occasional club ride we are not group riders.
However I am always interested in other folks travels. Just for curiosity I checked the ferries & get a cost right now at £258 for bike & rider or £323 for rider & pillion. This is the economy no frills travel that we use and will be using again next year for our Belgium & France trips.

£258 for rider + bike, sounds about right.

Our invoice from Brittany Ferries is for two riders + two bikes including cabins on both legs of the journey Pompey-Bilbao and Cherbourg-Poole- £470 - that's £235 plus eight nights accomodation is about £450. A recent similar tour by a leading commercial tour operator was £1789 for one person, one bike, single room, shared inside cabin not including accomodation in the UK prior to travel (we plan to stop in the IBIS Portsmouth as the ferry leaves at 08:45)

Thanks, that sounds great. I can't do it this year, but really fancy doing wheels and waves next year, especially at those kind of prices. Cheers.
