Just a quick update and apologies for the delay. Adjusting the clutch (again) this time according to the manual has indeed improved things considerably although first to second is still a bit of a struggle. Looks as though I will have to re-train my brain to the Enfield way of gear changes. Thanks to all who replied and for all the suggestions.
