Sorry jefrs, that's complete bo**ocks. (br)If you restrict the air flow into the carb the piston is still tying to suck in it's 500cc so this results in a higher vacuum in the venturi which results in MORE fuel being drawn through the jet/needle and hence a richer mixture. This is not the usual venturi effect which is present without the choke.
That's how chokes work (but not the mixture enriching system which is fitted on the Mikarbs)
