I'm restoring a late series 2 interceptor. I haven't got it started yet, but when I kick it over I get a gurgling sound from the engine breather hose. Kicked it over with the oil cap off and a big jet of oil hit the carb. I can feel the pressure if I put my hand over the end of the breather then kick it over. Any ideas before I start stripping things down.
2 more things, how much oil do they they take? I've put in about 7 or 8 Ltrs. Are the oil caps the same on the series 1a and 2. If the 2 is longer maybe I've got too much oil in??
Cheers

7 or 8 ltrs of oil? That's 2 gallons.... Find that a bit hard to believe... Must be a huge hole in the sump..... Look under the bike.

Hello, way to much oil. Manual dose not quote capacity but oil level is 8.5 inches down the dipstick from the underside of the dip stick cap. Looks like you have the wrong dipstick. Richard

If you've put that much oil in I'm not surprised the breather is gurgling, it must be full up like a Friday night sailor at closing time! Unlike the Mk1 and 1A Interceptors the S2 is a true "wet sump" design so all the oil is effectively below the engine, the dipstick is extra long to reach it on these models. Fortunately our Hosts here sell new ones, have a look in the Parts Books online and you'll see it. Get one now, the levels are clearly marked on it so it'll take all the guesswork out. I've just finished rebuilding a very very late S2 and am enjoying the ride!

That'll be it then. Thanks gents, I guessed it was something like that. Bought the bike as a project about 6 years ago from a VERY dodgy dealer and most of the bits turned out to be not interceptor so it doesn't surprise me that the dipstick is also wrong....
