Depends G Lad, if the case is really bad then wet and dry might be a good start. A drop of washing up liquid in the water helps by the way.

Pete it's perhaps time to ignore a certain poster, I think most people now realize the advice given is mostly incorrect.

If aluminium is really oxidised and dirty, blast cleaning with crushed walnut shells is the way to go. (You may need to wait until a blast cleaning company has some reproduction furniture to "antique," it is cheaper that way.)

Personally I haven't got it in for anyone Gaz, but if I see a post that is (IMHO) wrong or misleading, I will say so.
Internet forums are a great way of spreading knowledge but they are also a great way to spread mis-information.
I have been corrected by Jefrs quite often and have acknowledged that.

As some ancient scribe once said, The book teacheth more in one year than experience in twenty.

Gaz, it's not a case of have it in for Jefrs, unfortunately the guy gives so much bad information that like PeteF, I find it hard to let it pass. Some people who don't know better may in some cases damage their bike.
