You are correct.
HPF397 replacment fuel pump....

from the above or direct from the.... fuelperformance.... site.
You drain the tank, remove the fuel pump assy and detach the white plastic cover by undoing the 3 cross headed screws.The negative lead has a locating tab on it and in any case the pump has polarity markings.

I have not found a suitable in tank filter as yet but am running a remote filter....(http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/f ... ter-filter).... in the air filter housing.
Im using a K&N conical filter PN .. RG-2320 ....(http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RC-2320-K-N-U ... 3641.l6368)...

As a side note this fuel filter....(http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/8 ... -aluminium)...can be used externally by using a longer primary length of hose.

I realy wish our hosts would pick up on this alternative and market a kit.....

Thanks! I don't need one as yet but I've saved your post for future reference.
It would make all the difference to someone with a duff pump and a lack of £500.
What is in the black bit at the top?

The black ...C... shaped part is not required to rebuild the pump.
There is a plastic "cap" and 2 rubber "half moon" shaped vibration mounts on the Enfield unit which transfers over and attached to the base of the new pump.

The rubber "nipple" that you can see in the pictures is a transit blank and should be removed before installation.

Also... it would be worth while having an assortment of "O" rings to replace any faulty items during the rebuild.

These are available from Halfords in a boxed kit.

I can understand why people go for the carb conversion when faced with pump failier ,.. but this is cheaper again.
