So finally been through the process of getting my bike registered.Although I found the original registration number in the archives Dvla would not believe that the bike belonged to the number or vise versa because in 1928 they registered the bike without noting the frame number.They have issued me an age related number after having the bike tested at no cost by a company that certifies these things. the royal Enfield club also dated the machine wich I sent in with my application but Dvla didn't think this was enough hence the test.One has to be patient and although I still think dvla should proof that the original number didn't belong to the bike instead of me having to proof it did,at least I can now drive it on the road.

Hi Aine, I know Alan Ratcliffe through the Panther Owners Club so I gave him a call to see if he had any copy documents that might help you recover the original number. Turns out his was reg no BS9002. Must have been a mix up in the captions in the RE nagazine. Adam

I have a local sign painter making my number plate and I will be on the road next week. thanks everyone for there help.
