PeteF et al, years ago I worked with shire horses and knew a few farm hands. I remember one of them tipped the tractor over ploughing so they got the horse up to pull it upright. A number of farmers do keep horses, daughter's pony club etc some enjoy ploughing competitions but riding shires is becoming very popular. However most of them do not bother cultivating inaccessible land these days as it is just not economical. I like weird mechanical stuff but using a rotovator is for the allotment not a field.

The rotovator I had on the back of the tractor was 8 feet wide and used most of the 100 ish horsepower of the 6 cylinder Perkins diesel engine someone had fitted to my tractor. It was definitely for the fields and not the garden!
