I have just joined the vintage motor cycle club got a lovely welcome pack with a selection of magazines.

Hi Reds, I'm a member of both REOC and VMCC. REOC don't have a branch near me and I'm secretary of Cheshire Cats, our VMCC Section based in Northwich. I suspect most are members of both too...

I'm not, and I suspect that members with newer bullet would not qualify

Member of VMCC but not REOC . . . I won't shout too loud on here but my new B5 doesn't qualify (for either apparently!) but my elderly MZ does (for VMCC).

Nigel, if your new B5 has Royal Enfield on the tank it qualifies for the REOC. There is no bar to Indian machines of any sort! Why do you think it doesn't?

I should clarify...

I meant newer Enfields would not qualify for the VMCC, and I never joined them. All Enfields are eligible for the REOC.

I guess Kevin, being a 1959 bike would be eligible, but he lives in France, so I still have not joined the VMCC, but they had a great show last Sunday at Alyesford. Tornado and I were pleased to attend!

VMCC rules are that the bike must be at least 25 years old. This is calculated on a rolling year so early 90s sports bikes like the Honda VFR and CBR etc are now eligible alongside pre-War BSA sidevalves. Seems a bit daft to me but hey. I am a VMCC member and have been on a few runs but I don't find them very friendly. This is based on experience of my local branch who shall remain nameless to protect the few who were welcoming! Which is a shame as on a recent VMCC run I noticed the number of much older guys who were riding Japanese lightweights with electric start (because they can't ride heavier kickstart machines any more,) was quite large. Fair play to those chaps still getting out there but new blood is needed but how to do it? By the way, I remain a member because I think we should support a high profile organisation that makes us more visible to legislators and I enjoy the magazine.

Im with Mark M, I joined the VMCC but found them a clicky bunch unwelcoming to new comers, especially younger members (i am 48), i ditched membership after 2 years, my friend who is in the correct age bracket (70ish) has also ditched membership after 25 odd years with them for the same reason, thats the West kent branch FYI.

I dumped VMCC 15 years ago after just a year & half for similar reasons as Mark & Bertie. A bit Like the curates egg, good in parts, not so in others.
Might give REOC a go sometime as the one who was so snotty towards me via email has maybe now gone. That too was a long time ago. Can't remember any names on account I thought elitist twat feck you & deleted everything.
After all these years maybe attitudes have changed, or not

Mark, like Beezabryan I too got a really snotty email from an 'official' of the REOC (I had a Classic 500 at the time) who told me I was 'wasting his time' so I gave it a miss. I'm 15 miles from Allen House and always receive a warm welcome and a coffee when I go over to the VMCC to do some research in the library . . . and the emails are always try polite!
