Jefrs: That might be the case with your seat but on my 2015 LE Despatch there is no rubber bush. If I remove the lower spring fixing on my solo saddle it would collapse. The lower spring mounting sits on a metal collar. Perhaps mine with the tan leather solo and pillion pad differs, or maybe like with the tank mounting later models than yours differ. Whatever, I can unequivocally state that the springs on my seat compress and there is no rubber bush.

Rattlebattle, what year model is your bike? Do you have straight or angled forks ends? Are the wheels the same size or 19/18? My Classic was reg 2015 but left the factory 2014. That thick solo seat has two bots underneath for the rubber bush and no tongue at the front, I had to fabricate one. This fitting is one of the reasons H's say most dual seats don't fit the Classic. I'm puzzled why a Despatch would have different frame fittings.

What year of bike? A bit of a clue in my previous post I would have thought, plus it is generally known that the LEs only became available last year. Whatever, it was actually manufactured in June 2015. As such, it has the later tank mount, straight fork bottoms, 19/18 front/rear wheels and as far as I know is no different in most respects from the standard C5 of the latest (or at least mid 2015) construction. I believe 2016 models have minor changes too. I stand by what I said, having had the seat off several times to remove the tank - it does not sit on rubber buffers and the seat springs are there, oddly enough, to provide springing for the seat....I don't know whether a dual seat would fit or not. If I'd wanted one I'd have bought a Bullet and saved a grand.

Rattlebattle, I do not disbelieve you, far from it. RE are renowned for changing spec at the drop of a pin. What you describe is almost identical to my C5 other than the seat mount (and tank mount and cosmetics). I wonder why they deleted it, weird.

The year-model would be given by the engine number or VIN. As described in the Owners Manual. The tenth character of the VIN gives the year E=2014. With the engine number it's the 7th and 8th characters that give year and month (starting with A=Jan). The year-model is not necessarily the year of purchase and registration. To confuse matters I've recently been looking at a 2015 Green Limited Edition Despatch (which are different to the normal Battle Green, leather straps etc) that has the rubber bush seat mount.

Been away for a while in Copenhagen. How was it? Wonderful, wonderful...(Sorry). Anyway, I did specify the month and year in my previous post, suggesting that I do know how the RE numbering system works. Actually, I seem to recall it states this on the LE "plaque" on the lhs of the bike, the one where it specifies which number (out of 200) the particular bike is. As for differences between C5 another forum has noted these. Of relevance here is that there was a relatively large change in mid-2015 ie around the time the LEs began production. ( This ties in with the official news release of the LEs on the official Indian RE website, where my interest in the LEs was first aroused). The most obvious change was the tank mount but I believe also that nyloc nut was also used on the rear wheel spindle instead of using a split pin - this might have been an earlier change - who knows. Also, it seems that at some point the r/r was moved; the current location has caused problems with featuring if the mounting. A large cable tie seems to reduce this risk as it stops the r/r flapping about until it resonated with the engine vibes and breaks. Mine has been fine with this mod. Anyway, all I was saying is that the standard solo seat on mine if fine for me and causes no wallowing because, my being no heavyweight, the rear suspension doesn't move a lot and therefore the springing in the seat is fine. Normally, I agree, one would not expect a sprung saddle on a s/a bike ( though Moto Guzzi did that with the New Falcon).

if you look at my other posts, you will see I had the rear seat dilemma re comfort. I finally cured this by buying a front seat and fabricating some brackets so I could fit it on the rear. great success, and it looks better than it sounds. imported a new seat from India.. I think it coast about £70.00 inc postage etc

Rattlebattle, not being funny at all but interested in the differences between your LE and the standard model.

My 2014 year-model C5 (reg Aug 2015) has the nyloc nut on the rear spindle but the older bolt through a rubber bush front tank mount. I have no idea whether the Rollover is moved but I've had absolutely no problem with it, under the seat on RHS on rubber mount. But I am wondering why they gave your LE a special frame at some expense and hence (or maybe because of) the special (the tan leather) solo seat fitting.

If you had the rubber bush you would recognise it for sure, it is a big single block of a rubber mount (about 3-in tall rather like an engine or car suspension mount, not a pair of buffers) in the middle of the nose of the seat, it can support the seat on its own but would probably raise the seat maybe a good inch higher than yours is set on the LE - and that's why I disused it. I'm built more like a gorilla than a monkey ;)

pd110961, I hound your Airhawk posts but nothing on fitting a front seat to the rear pillion. The HD knock off touring seat I got was no good. I could have fitted it but would have been disappointed with the quality of the thing

Jefrs, mine definitely doesn't have the rubber mount. Certainly when I remove the two rear spring mounts the seat drops and clearly wouldn't support me let alone you....I don't know whether or not my LE is the same as a post mid-2015 standard C5, if such a bike exists, as I don't have one with which to compare it; next time I visit the dealer I'll have a look. Not sure about "rollover;" is that a predictive text error? (Yes I know there's a rollover sensor). I wrote r/r, meaning regulator/ rectifier. I gather it used to be behind the small grille under the headlight but was moved at some time to under the seat nose and its mount is now prone to fracturing. There is a thread on Classicmotorworks forum that attempts to catalogue the changes to the UCE bikes since 2009 if you are interested; it started three or four months ago IIRC. That's all I really want to say on this subject.
