Pedant's and trolls are different but but they can be treated in similar ways, either ignore them or lead them into an ever deeper hole, ignoring didn't work, ;-)

I think it was Confucius who said, `Sprag clutch should never be used in single cylinder engine.` But I could be wrong. I was wrong once in 1949.

I’m with you sofiaspin. There are lot of knowledgeable people out there who give good advice and are very helpful to people like me who don’t have experience of modern engines and yes, that does apply to Royal Enfield. I stopped pulling motorbikes to bits some fifty years ago and things certainly have moved on a bit since then. Like you, I only reply to posts if I feel I can offer some input from experience as I simply don’t have the knowledge. It is a shame when posts get hijacked as the people who have the knowledge will eventually stop replying. Rant over.
To get back to my original post, I have now fitted the new lithium battery and everything is now perfect. I have never known the engine to turn over so fast and fire immediately with the starter; lithium is the way to go! Just out of interest, the old battery was almost dry and not obviously not holding its charge; so much for the Harley Davidson FULL service in January of this year. The battery is quite difficult to remove as it’s in back to front and barely clears the frame so I assume that they just didn’t bother to check it. Thankfully we’ve got a new RE dealer locally who is very experienced.

MickB, could you do me a favour and give me the detail of the battery as in any numbers and specs on the outside of it.
Our Hosts state 240CCA for that battery but I can't find any such specification. I am wondering if it is a misprint in the catalogue.

Hi MickB, I'm pleased you are now sorted and sorry about the way this thread went but you did get the correct information before our ego polishing expert in everything got involved, I am also sorry if I personally caused you any anguish, sometimes I just find it hard to keep quiet when someone pretends be far cleverer than they are just to falsely inflate their own ego, once again, sorry.

Hey, Dennis - just think of it as your contribution to "care in the community". :-)

Papasmurf, the battery is a Skyrich that I bought in France as our hosts do not post them over here. The specs are: 12V, 12ah, CCA 270 - 290. I did quite a bit of research on these before I bought one and apparently the CCA ratings can be a bit misleading and are not normally as high as indicated. Depending on which battery you buy it can range from 200 to 360 for the big Harleys.

MickB, I take it you realise you need a special battery charger for Lithium-Ion batteries. (That is why I have not purchased a lithium battery.)
