Reynolds who make many thousands of sprag clutches state the sprags make constant contact, I do think they know more about it than we do.

You're wasting your time Dennis. Jefrs never admits when he's even partly wrong. He just resorts to technical detail. I practical engineer would consider two parts in contact even if there were an oil film between them and also that two parts were in contact if they were "dragging".
Once again, we must bow to his superior knowledge in all things.

I know you are right Pete, sometimes I just can't help myself, but it was fun.

It would seem that standard, common sense replies to any posts on here are hijacked by a pedant, the pedant is quite happy to thrust knowledge on people even if it is not exactly pertinent to the original question. Most queries require a simple experienced based answer, if theories are to be expounded maybe start another thread, I saw an earlier comment that such comment was the reason may people do not post any more - count me in! I will just poodle around on my RE or the Matchlesses and hold my thoughts on any further posting.

The problem is not really the pedant, it is allowing yourself to be sucked into an argument. Three years ago I was stuck in the Highlands and posted a request for information on coil problems. One person started to tell me the error of my ways and inadequacies. Everyone else helped out. I asked said contributor not to comment ever again on my postings and in return I have stopped engaging in arguments. I just filter out the interesting stuff and try and make positive contributions.
