I would also use a high speed oscilloscope in the lab, preferably a CRO type because digital-recording ones have a nasty habit of altering incoming small fast pulse data. We retained a couple of old fast CRO 'scopes for when we wanted to do stuff like this. It often depends on how big the signal is and whether you can load it without altering it, good TEK probes not the nasty RS ones.
