[Off to the shed again]

Hi all. Is it not still possible to load a bike into the Guards Van on trains for a reasonable fee? I have done this in the very dim past, but perhaps the notes went to the guard? LOL!

If you fit a tow bar, why don't you hire a trailer. That way you have the option to take the bike on all holidays with you, without having to store a trailer

Personally I don't like removable towballs. I never quite trust the linkage, but that's just paranoia I'm sure.
A fixed towball can also save you a lot of damage in the event of a rear shunt. A fancy Escort destroyed his fancy front spoiler on my towbar once leaving me without a scratch.

The removable tow ball is a factory part, perfectly strong. The idea of removing them is that if you get a rear shunt you don't get your chassis altered, which is generally what happens, new subframe time. Plus the rear bumper is soft impact thing for car park syndrome. When someone glides into you, you wash the mark off.



Bike trailers are actually quite cheap. But for very occasional use and nowhere to store it, not worth bothering with. For the last 30+ years I've run a big estate of some sort, you can stuff a ton or more inside and often do but until now I've never even considered a trailer.



So trailer is right out of the picture - what about bike transport services ???
