I use Windows 10 and have plugged various video cameras in, they show up as a drive just open the drive up and find your video and copy it to your computer, windows live movie maker is still available for download as far as I am aware its not designed for windows 10 but does apparently work ok, I use Corel Video Studio with no problems

Leon, I had the same problem with Windows 10 (seen as disk drive), needed to re-install GoPro drivers. Actually a Windoze 10 upgrade error. Workaround was to uninstall GoPro software and install latest version.

It is important that the GoPro be recognised as a GoPro on USB connection to PC by the GoPro Studio software so you can then firmware update the GoPro camera, which needs doing from time to time. Windows 10 upgrade stopped GoPro Studio connecting to the GoPro camera.

There are options on the GoPro for connecting it as a disk drive so you can transfer to other editors. Processing the movies on the USB cable is slow, I get the files transferred to the hard disks before editing, I've got something like 14TB incl backup plus cloud storage for photo and video media. The files seem to breed like rabbits, especially when one can shoot over a thousand pics in a day.



Windows Live Movie Maker is available in Windows 10 as an option for download but it is crippleware compared to Movie Maker 6 which is still out there and does run on Windows 10. I tend to use GoPro studio initially because it is built for the GoPro. Same as I initially use PhotoFun Studio for the Panasonic GH4, because it understands the proprietary files best, and transfers data quickest. I also use Adobe Premiere Elements, Movie Maker (both) and Red Shark Lightworks.

I use a cheap Chinese one with GoPro compatible mountings. Works well mounted on the C5's handlebars. I bought a micro SD to full size SD card with it. I just shove the SD card into my laptop ( technical expression) and watch the footage using free VLC software on either my Linux (great, just works) laptop or my Windows 10 one ( hang around while this, that and the other updates then restart before using it crap one). On the RE no need for slomo either...I was surprised how good at 1080p it is. I bought it to see if it was worth my spending a lot of cash on a GoPro- I don't think so, but we'll see how well it lasts.

Jefrs, I just connect my GoPro via USB and can swap files about like any other drive. I suspect it's window 10 that's the culprit. I'm still using Windows 7 despite MS trying it's best to make me "upgrade"

I use a CCbetter@710 1080P helmet camera bought from Amazon.

PeteF, yes it's the Windoze 10 upgrade that wiped the GoPro drivers out. It was working perfectly in Win8.



Eventually you will have to upgrade to Windows 10 or you won't be able to run the latest software apps. As I said above, the solution was to re-install the GoPro Studio app completely (by download) on Windows 10. If and when you upgrade to Windows 10 make sure you do the 'custom' upgrade to keep your apps and settings, and don't forget to backup all your documents and media first. My media is stored on separate disks so nothing got lost at all, the PC has three inside and one on top of the bookcase shared with the laptop and fondleslabs. The upgrade was tedious but reasonably painless.

I have no need to.

I always consider changing operating systems on any given machine a bad idea. The new OS will expect (demand?) up to date specifications on the old machine (very old in my case, at least in computer terms)
I will "upgrade" to W10 when I get a new machine and not before.
I have a friend who was running W3-1-1 until a couple of years ago. Now he WAS a bit limited in the software he could run.

Recent experiment with Ram Ball U-bolt mount close to handlebar clamp is very stable for the GoPro but I'm still getting jelly-wobble (it's what happens then the camera is moved due to sensor scanning), am trying faster frame rate 60fps, drawback is that forces a faster 'shutter' speed and hence less light thus more noise.
