Back in the day there were several different Monobloc float chamber covers available. One of the differences was that the word Amal cast into the cover was at a different angle so that when the carb was used in different fitting applications (ie downdraught or flat,) the word Amal was horizontal, or as near as possible. The single cover that Amal make now doesn't cover all these fittings. (And also the wording is subtly different.) Small point I know but the angle of the logo really does look odd in some situations like my Mk 1 Inter.

Past caring what it looks like, as long as it seals. I would prefer a nice reliable single premier concentric any day & that's what it will probably end up with. It has P11 high pipes fitted so originality is not an issue. Anyone fancy a pair of LH & RH 389 monoblocs? TTFN Jack

We used to be able to buy sheets of gasket material and cut our own out; make a paper template. I've seen cardboard used. Some gasket cements come off with petrol, some don't.

Make sure the screws are correct, they are a sort of domed countersink with cross slot.

Sorry Jack, that wasn't intended as a nitpickin' restorer's note, just a bit of a whinge about Amal products! I've just fitted a pair of Amal Premier Mk1 Concentrics to the Series 2 and so far I'm very pleased indeed, they really do live up to their billing.

Aye Mark, no offence taken at all. It's a non-standardish bike anyway. I too fitted two pairs of Premier Mk1s to two SIAs & they work lovely. 389 Carb has a new bowl cover & two new gaskets & is now sealed. Just got to get the knack of starting when hot now.
