Probably true Jeff, 1960 was the year I bought my first bike a 1946 BSA B31, annual service?, what's that?, new plug every year?, not likely at 2/6d a time it got one when it no longer ran, clean plug and points every week?, no just when it started misfiring which was very rare.

I understand what you are meaning but to be honest I find in my old bikes (that is proper old bike's not Enfield imposters) if I can keep my genuine old plugs working they last far better than the current plugs, I guess the design has changed to suit modern lean burn engines.

Thanks chaps for your varied replies about the longevity of spark plugs. I guess things manufactured nowadays don't last like they used to.
