Judging by past threads on the forum about "how much oil" it appears whatever the manual states is far too much, unless it is the first fill after an engine rebuild.

Which is why our hosts recommend 2 litres - not 2.5 litres - for a 350/500 classic non-unit engine - of course!! ;-)

I refer you all to my previous answer which works on all engines that require an oil change.

If the oil was below the requiured level prior to changing, fill with the same amount of fresh oil and then top-up as required.

Simples!

When I gave my Brand-new 2000 Bullet 500 its first oil change, I dutifully studied the hand book and poured 2.5 litres of oil in, to my horror, it came right up the fill spout. Oh! how I laughed.

Hi and yes I am only trying to help. This may help - http://www.midlandbullets.co.uk/bull%20 ... nual-1.pdf There are three parts so go back to that site for the other two.

Here we see that the Indian 350 Bullet has a total capacity of 2.25 litres (1 litre is very approx 1 US Quart, 2.25 litres is approx 4 Imp Pints). But note many oil jugs are marked in litres and US Quarts, not imperial pints.

This quantity is fine if you have totally and utterly drained and cleaned out the motor, as you might with a re-build. But the motor retains oil on draining, so if you put that much in on a filter change, you over-fill.

I did not say withdraw 500ml and discard it. I said with withdraw some oil and refill to the mark.

Having had a Redditch 350 Bullet, albeit a long time ago, I am still familiar with its ability to discharge oil on a regular basis and how to top it up.
