I'd go for screws the correct size i.e. the next size up, that cut out and re-thread the material like a tap - types D F G T AT

So do you now think a self tapping screw would do the job?.

If all else fails you've nothing to lose by drilling right through and out the top side and fit a longer bolt with a nut and washer to the underside of the switch housing.

How about using two-part epoxy resin to fill the hole, then drive in the original screw before it sets?

Dennis C, yes a cutting/tapping screw should do the job but a proper tap would do a better job. I'd rather do the job properly than bodge it. Even if you're driving a tapping screw in you have to drive it correctly (like a tap) to clear material out.

Using epoxy would be difficult to tighten the screw in tension and a risk of the cement pulling out because it is not particularly sticky (it's a cement not a glue). I've used Loctite like that to hold the screw until I ret a round tuit, it won't take another removal without fixing it. Milliput epoxy putty can be cut and tapped but again a good risk or a plug of that pulling out too; I've used expoxies and Milliput for similar tasks, they never hold a screw thread well although a 'liquid metal' type may work.

Well, on this, the first day of 'summer', where we have just lit our fire again, I would use the self tapper to get the machine rideable again as soon as possible, any of the other more long winded approaches might pose the risk of missing that few hours of riding in good weather which might come our way some time soon. Page four looming !

This thread has become a perfect example of over complicating a very minor problem. Seems to be happening more and more on here. Page 4 good grief I hope not.

Yes. Having just had to separate the halves on both left and right hand switch clusters to fit the carb conversion I approached the job with fear and trepidation having read some of this thread before the will to live started waning. Needn't have worried; I separated and re-closed both sides without any problem. Either the later (2015) Minda ones are better quality or perhaps some are over enthusiastic with the screwdriver.......

Bloody hell- didn't realise i'd set off screw-gate in my absence.

I had intended to drill the new bars but as someone rightly pointed out, once the controls were in place they'd have knocked the tank so i just Ended up putting the old bars back on.

I think i'll limit myself to adding stickers ;)
