Hello Gents,
I'm restoring a 1961 Constellation. My question is about the bath tub style rear fender.
The rear fender on the bike I have is chrome, and very nice chrome at that. However I have not seen any photos of a 61 Connie with a chrome rear fender. Is it possible that a chrome rear fender was an option in 1961 or was this fender chromed by someone at a later date. I want to return this bike to near original and have to decide if the chrome needs to go or stay.
Thanks
Al

I think they were painted. The first ones had a fibreglass bathtub which was obviously painted but later ones were a steel pressing and I'm pretty sure they were still painted. I have one lined up for a 1961 Super Meteor project one day....

If you're looking for information on british sites, the fender is called a mudguard. No biggie but you'll likely find more information searching on "mudguard".
