Had a lov lu run today on Dorothy my 1946 model G when I come across a group of Morris minor drivers parked at a coffee shop.

On speaking and admiring glances. Of each others vehicles the question of preference of a classic bike or car come up.

I said bike for freedom of the air in your face and storage .

What is you guys preference or if you have both what are the pro,s and cons

I like both in equal measure. I've had Triumph Heralds, Spitfires, etc in the past. However. I gravitate towards 2 wheels as they're easier to work on (Plus I can fit more motorcycles into the garage). Which is easier to get. A 1959 Vauxhall PA Cresta, or a 1959 BSA Bantam?

My wife and her father with our 1954 convertible, about 1974. My firm`s mini-van about 1972. My nephew peering through from the other side.

Sunshine jogged my memory bank. My uncle had a rough looking minor which he'd modified to take part in hill climbs, treasure hunts and club rallies..

Around 1968 or so, It had the Riley one point five motor with twin SU's and Girling brakes..

Wolf in sheep clothing if ever there was, only the wider wheels gave a clue.. Surprised a few people at traffic light starts..

Would love to rebuild old cars but i know how much space is needed for body panels and chassis storage.

Happy enough with bikes various and can't find anything in the workshop as it is..

I've been looking for the right Triumph Spitfire for quite a while as they are simple to work on and parts are plentiful. However a recent trip from Devon to Kent and back in an absolutely gutless and ugly modern Ford (hire car)has convinced me that I really need another series 1 or 2 XJ6 or maybe a late XJ12 for longer journeys.

Rather been there ... with old cars, they can rapidly turn into a money pit. The bodies rot out, tatty upholstery, unreliable, there's a lot of paint to maintain besides the mechanicals. Compared to a bike there's far more to go wrong. For everyday use, a car; modern cars are available in all sizes to suit everyone's needs, and they're far more reliable than the old ones ever were. I drive a big automatic SUV because I need to haul adults and bulky stuff. These days I am far less than enthusiastic about spannering cars, it's got to the point where it's cheaper (and a lot quicker) to let the garage service the brakes than I could buy the parts over the counter, no point. The bike is for fun. Maintaining an old bike (been there too) is a lot easier and cheaper than keeping an old car on the road.

I've only just got the hang of poking a spanner around two wheels. I certainly don't need any more on a vehicle.
