If the (electric) fuel pump on my Morris stops working, you have to hit it then it starts working again.

I was on an Autobahn in Germany a good number of years ago and stopped to help a British registered car, can't remember what make. It had the same fuel pump as mine and I hit it and it started first time. They looked surprised to be on the way again so quickly.

Mad woman with hammer: fixing electricals - my wife used to have to leap out of her Nova in the middle of the street and belt the starter bendix with one of my hammers, leap back in and drive off. Eventually that starter seized and caught fire. Oops.

my dad used to have a 1961 mini.. the electric fuel pump was under the rear subframe, where all the mud n crap could get to it. i fashioned a short stick that i could hit it with and got so good at it i didnt need to lie under the car!

If it moves and shouldn't - gaffer tape!
If it doesn't move but should- big hammer!
And the old army saying - If it moves, oil it; if it doesn't, paint it!
