The tickler is to ensure the foot of the jet is in petrol so it can be sucked up by the air flow. It should gush out not take ages. Fuel line blockage, usually a filter; tank, in-line, in a banjo bolt.

This is the one to fix and might explain why you need full throttle - if fuel is not getting into the engine, it won't start. If you can't get at the in-tank filter you might be able blow air back up the pipe to clear it (yuk! and temporary fix).



The 'heat' of a plug is more to do with it's self-cleaning, the temperature it 'burns' at, than the temperature the engine runs at due to fairing; how hard you run work the motor has some bearing on this. If you race the bike you probably want a colder plug, if you ride very leisurely you might want a hotter one. With modern fuel it is very difficult to judge plug colour against the colour pictures in the olde Haynes joke books. This one is if it ain't broke don't fix it.
