Hi,

I own a 62 model enfield. Earlier it used a short delco for ignition.

As time passed by, my mechanic switched it to new Big distributor.

Now I am thinking of putting back my short delco.

The problem that i face is, since my short delco is very old and was put aside in my garage for years now, the points, governor, distributor shaft etc are mising/lost..

It will be great if you can help me rebuild my short delco with infos like - will the new distributor shaft, governor assembly etc. will suit my old short delco body. I have procured couple of short delco points from one of the local stores.

Even if the new one wont fit in, ideas are welcome to help build short delco back to life.

Thanks,

If the old unit is "short", I assume you mean the length. Therefore the shaft etc from the newer unit won't fit unless it is shortened. Might as well update it with the newer distributor?

There are three different distributors...

If you check the parts listing on this site for the 1960 350 English Bullet, that was the original type fitted to your bike.

If you have enough money then pretty much any thing can be made to fit. Personally, stay with the modern unit for reliability and ease of maintenance.
