I think we're getting confused here, the dismantled engine is one that ET already has and has shown in previous posts. The pictures of the complete bike he has are interesting but could do with more detail. G2 Enfields did not have matching numbers so what I think has happened is that the frame has been stamped with the same number as the apparently genuine engine and eh voila, we have an "old" Royal Enfield. Graham Scarth (REOC Chairman) will date the engine if you contact him!

It is Indian. The numbers are circa 1964, as to are the frame and cases, everything else is of much later manufacture.

It has been converted from 350 to 500 which is never a good sign...

Any one who pays more than $200 for it will be paying $400 too much.

It might even be a 350 drive side crankcase, with everything else built around it. Either way, these 'mid sixties' 'Redditch' Bullets are becoming a bit of a pain, they are just the result of people trying to make a fast buck and if I can spot them, where do the ones that appear for sale in the UK with age related plates from the sixties get their dating certificates from - I know it is not likely to be the REOC ?

If you follow the rocker oil feed pipe back to the crankcase just below the oil pipe union into the crankcase there is what looks like a bolt head screwed into to crankcase facing forwards. It's behind there. These were fitted to Redditch and early Indian Bullets.

B.W., I was speaking to Graham Scarth about another registration matter recently, it seems some people use the VMCC!

I can see from your last pic it has the relief valve. If you ever strip the engine show us some pics of the crankcase mouth, it will be interesting to see how they altered the stud spacing from 350 to 500.

The Indians started making their own frames in 1957, and were producing the crankcases from 1965 onwards.

But with out a pic of the engine numbers and the EI numbers one can not confirm further?

The "Redditch' oil pressure relief on the return to the rockers was dropped by EI in 1972
