Guys,

I know there is no legal age limit to carry a pillion , my daughter who is 7 sits behind me In the garage on my bullet feet can reach the pegs pretending to ride and hold on to me.

Do any of you Cary young pillion passengers at any time I have riden in the back garden with her but not the road , I know riding pillion whether on a bullet at 20 mph on back roads or a race bike at 70 on the motor way is riding pillion but thought I would ask the question would you or do you ?

Myself not sure if I did though it would be on back country roads at a nimble only

From a legal point of view my understanding is that as long as the child's feet can reach the footpegs then they are legally allowed to ride pillion. All of my 3 children have ridden pillion on my bikes as they were growing up and they all enjoyed it as did a lot of their friends. I wouldn't go flying around the M25 with a child on the back but a fun ride around the country lanes, why not.

I would listen for my father coming home on his Norton and if the weather was ok he would give me a spin around the block before tea time..

Would've been around 7 years old, he used to lash me to his waist with a long leather belt/buckle used for securing suitcases and the like..

Loads of street cred as i waved to my buddies.. She will remember forever, go on be a real dad..

Like Gwilly I used to ride pillion with my Dad, sadly it was a Suzuki 50 stepthru not a Norton, but he was an insurance rep until I was 7 so school holidays were spent doing his rounds with him. He also used the long belt approach, one from an old mac I think, not sure how safe that would have been if he'd ever dropped it though! I'd say definitely take her for a spin and see if she likes it, do you have mummy's approval?

I have just returned from a 5 mile ride around the village roads , SHE LOOOVVVED IT . DADDY DADDY GO FASTER I heartd her say through the closed visor , holding tight around my waist with a belt securing her to me I opened up the throttle , my bullet hit about 30 mph I could hear her giggling . Mum was ok , and the beauty of this is I can now go on ride outs for the day and not get earache when I get home , as I will be taking the little one with me . Me her on the Enfield and mum can get some piece and quiet . What a result

As soon as we returned she said can we go out later please daddy . .

It may be worth while checking with your insurance. Being an old guy, I remember when pillion cover became compulsory due to the number of pillions suing for accident injuries. Now I have been asked a few times when applying for cover if I carried pillion passengers. I don't remember hearing that the law had changed!

I asked a policeman about this, and he told me that as long as they could reach the footpegs and had appropriate fitting safety gear, it was fine. In good weather I take both my kids to school on the Bullet - not at the same time I hasten to add. My nine year old daughter loves it, my twelve year old son prefers the Honda. I'm working on it....

She is smitten , got back from the first ride , an hour later we rolled the bullet out the garage for another spin this time did about 20 miles of back roads . This is great now I don't need an excuse why I need to go for a ride , I can just prep the little one to ask to go for a ride instead of the park )))))))))))))

My children rode pillion from about 5 years old. I fashioned higher footrests and fitted either a backrest or top box with padding so they would n't fall off the back. I never had any issues at all and the kids loved it.
