'R' is readily available but pricey. It is not multigrade either so may not be suitable for modern enfields.
If you run an engine on it it will need very regular de-cokes. A bottle of Caster oil 'opening medicine' is ok just to put in the petrol but it may still foul the plug if over used.

Not only is R not multigrade but it is a vegetable based lubricant. On no account must it be mixed with mineral oil and if you switch from mineral to vegetable oil, all trace of the old oil must be removed. I can't imagine why anyone would want to use it these days as modern lubricants are so much better.

To be fair, the question was how to make my bike smell racey (in so many words). Now, back in the day R40 or 30 was the way to go, the odd hour spent warming the stuff up on a primus stove then smashing the race day out, then draining it off whilst still hot so it didn't turn to treacle in the engine - then repeat for the next meeting. The derision came from the club nights when a "young blood" on a C15 or something Japanese for goodness sake tore up and stopped, stinking of R having put "a little in the tank".
p.s. first World War pilots used to highly reccomend it for "moving the bowel" - that and the Albatross's obviously.

P.P.S. used it in the Jap and Weslake until I realised mineral was 1/3rd the price and just as good in the 70/80s

What about half a teaspoonful of those essential oils in the tank?



Your bike could smell of Eucalyptus, good for the winter. The Cannabis oil might be a bad idea as you would probably get stopped by every policeman in sight! (About once or twice a year then.) Or you could make the bike feel at home (for Indian Enfields) with curry leaf oil.
