There are some tight wads to be had on Enfields - I know of one who had a diesel engine one, with 18 litre tank and he was running it on RED !! Reckoned it was giving 1000km to a tankful, but I would want to get off the boneshaker and stretch my legs long before getting that far !

I want to adjust my petcock tubes too, I have to switch to reserve after 10 litres. I did buy a classic tank as I prefer the paint job and that has a different petcock - might just go ahead and do the swap anyway.

The biggest difference in tuning the EFI-500 was much smoother response on the throttle. Is it more powerful? I don't know but it can easily catch an old Norton Dominator. The big number on these engines is not the bhp power but the torque. Other bikes with comparable power output have half the torque and have to buzz the motor to get anywhere.

I have a four gallon tank on my Electra ES iron barrel four speed. At a touring 60mpg it gives a decent range. The bike is very heavy. An earlier 04 with ES but in much lightened trials trim including alloy wheels, would return 72mpg with the same engine/amal Mk1 carb and open exhaust.
The EFI watsonian woodsman would do 80mpg and that came with their own performance pipe. I think weight is a massive factor. If an owner is on the portly side - and the way our national waistlines are going - 15 stone is not uncommon - a Bullet will struggle with economy.
Odd how nobody seems to give their weight away as part of the ruminations around mpg!

Frank,,,, 110mpg?,,,, really?,,,, maths not your strong point?,,,,,,,,,, Or do you free wheel down all the hills?,,,,, Sorry, I just can't see how that's possible, please share your secret, I get around 75mpg and whilst I admit to not hanging about,,, it's an Enfield for God's sake, I can't be going that fast,,,,,,,,,,
