I am have bought a new light switch from our hosts for my 1954 RE Meteor 700 twin which is physically exactly the same as the remains of the old switch. It came with a metal spring to go around the body of the switch, but the switch is not deep enough to mount the spring. There is also no undercut in the assemble for a clip to recess into. Ideas appreciated. I have fitted exactly the same switch to other motorbikes I have rebuilt but they had pressed steel switch and ammeter holder assemblies which then went onto the headlamp.

Roger, are you saying you have the one piece headlight surround (known as the Casquette)? If so you don't need the spring clip, this is replaced with a rubber grommet which surrounds the switch making it a tight push fit into the Casquette.

Mark, I have the rubbers for both the switch and the ammeter but when the new switch came with a clip I have been trying to work out how to use it. Thanks.
