Like BW says, 20/50 all round is fine. You might find it a bit thick for the forks - all depends how stiff you want the suspension.

Papasmurf, the Reddich bullets and all other Brit bikes used engine oil in the gearbox, EP oils were not advised as at the time it is alleged that the EP additives were caustic to the phospher bronze bushes, consequently the gearboxes were designed to run in engine oil.

Why did I just post on an oil thread?.

Interesting Papasmurf, I am having the exact same issue with my 5 speed gearbox on my Sixty Five. When I am stopped it is more or less impossible to get out of gear into neutral. Even after everything has been adjusted.

Papa can you explain, what oil(s) you are using in the your 5 speeder? If more than 1 oil, what quantity of said oils are you using?

My 2000-500 Bullet still uses grease. I seldom have trouble finding neutral when stationary as there are so many of them. I do try to use the neutral finder when approaching a stop.

Guys - in my 1996 Indian 535cc gearbox, which now has sealed bearings, I use a cheap 20w50 with a dollop of molyslip. After setting up the clutch with minimal clutch lever travel (tested by pulling lever when powered on)it seems to be OK and gears select OK, even when stationary.
BHefore I added the sealed bearings and had only grease, it was always more difficult.
Cheers, ChrisD

David, I use EP90 in the gearbox of my Electra X (ish) as specified in both the owners manual, and the manufacturers workshop manual. To that I added STP gearbox treatment to the STP instructions. (There is a max mix ratio on the instructions.)

So Papa, when you mentioned " (The additive I put into the Electra X (ish) gearbox which cured the getting into neutral problem when stopped is 120 grade. There is a reason that came in a squeezy bottle, it is the only way to get it out.) " Is referencing STP gearbox treatment?

David, yes, the STP comes in a tube like toothpaste, it will only come out if you squeeze it, unless you are prepared to wait a long time.
