The Redditch factory eventually abandoned this sort of rear tank mounting bracket and went for the spring clip bolted to the underside of the tank, sitting on a rubber sleeve over the frame top tube. A.

If you need to weld a petrol tank I have found that a wallpaper steamer is very effective at removing petrol fumes and / or residue. As an alternative to the standard rear mount, my trials Bullet uses a rubber saddle type buffer from a Japanese bike over the frame tube and a substantial cable-tie around a hook at the back of the tank.

After having attempted to repair three tanks with Araldite/Epoxy Resin/JB weld, and have all three fail from vibration (?) in short order...


The stud/O ring loop is by far the most successful method of repair.


The latter Redditch tanks did away with that rear mount and went to a simple under-tank spring clip, which also failed...

Yes, I noticed after my last post the Redditch-style (Indian made) tank on mine has started leaking from somewhere around the petrol tap boss. Doesn't seem to be coming from the the clip mounting, but still a nuisance.
