Hi all once again I'm looking out for some good advice and explanations. A charging problem: the OEM regulator/rectifier delivers a massive 15, 28 V to the battery and my A-reg One delivers only 12,32V. So the OEM set up is over charging, and the A-reg is under charging. The bike (2003 500 cc Bullet) runs great with the overcharging, but my guess is that the rest of the electrical system is stressed by it. Under charging means the battery looses power; in 33 km it goes from 13,05V to 11,80V. The bike still runs great. What to read out of all this? all the best Jacob

I don't understand your figures. What does 15,28 V mean?

What to read?, fairly simple really, ideally you charge voltage should be between 13.8 and 14.2 volts, so therefore your original regulator is overcharging which is not good and will shorten battery life, you say the Areg only gives 12.32 but the battery voltage drops to 11.8, a slight contradiction there so I guess the Areg is an ex Areg. How good is your volt Meter?, could it be over reading?.

5.28 volts is a bit high, but I have seen 15 volt reading just after start up epically if the battery is a bit low then dropping to 14.8 within a few seconds then 14.4 after a few minute's then remaining stable, if 15.28 was the maximum recorded then settled down to something in the 14 volt range it may be ok, as said 15 volts constantly is to high, it looks like the A-reg is duff, and also as said you need a decent meter.

Hi all... 15,28V means 15.28V. The 15.28V reading was done from a cold start. The next reading will be done after a short ride. I guess the Areg is an Ex Areg as Dennis suggests. And I believe my reg/rec problems comes from the 4-wire stator I have converted to 2-wire. Something never got right, but since the bike has been running great all the time, I havn't paid enough attention to the alternator set up. Maybe it is time to install an entirely new alternator. Before doing so I will do some more test and readings (my meter is a decent meter so no problems there). Thanks for input and thoughts... Jacob
