do not know if this is normal , started the bike without choke.because it was sunny and warm bike stared but was dying so I had to give it choke, with my choke on the bike runs at just over , 2000 rpm I try to shove the choke in a bit to bring the revs down , but if I do it cuts out ok the engine is still cold but I think running at 2000rpm is a bit much, into gear and away choke now of, went a run for about 4 miles to Tesco. I turned the tickover screw. down to about 8 or 900 rpm it ticked away ok. I was in maybe 25 mins kicked the bike , it fired but once again , it struggled to keep firing I blipped the throttle and it just cut out, I had to screw the tickover screw back up to about 1000 rpm and away I went perhaps its me and the bike is not fully warmed up although I did hear popping in the exhaust on the overrun but then again the bike was still cold maybe I'm putting the choke of too early but its running just a bit over 2000rpm I will maybe try and reset the mixture I'm sure I had a stuck float yesterday there was petrol dripping out of the drain but ive not seen it since

have took plug out its a light grey colour with a wee bit of tan on the tip

My electra X is like that. Unless its a really hot day I often have to use the choke after a 30 min stop somewhere. A 4 miles run isn't anywhere long enough a run to get it properly hot

thanks dave I knew somebody on here would know, so its pretty normal electra x same avl engine, when I looked at the plug it gives you a hint what the mixture is like , and the coulor told me the mixture was pretty good, I'm slowly getting used to the wee quirks of royal enfields I meant to say in the post the run was only 4 miles altogether once again thanks

Mine are pretty much like that too. Leave them outside for too long and they sulk.



I usually stop after 8 miles, go into supermarket to get sandwiches quick, scoff them down and the bike is still happy when I go to start to continue. Any longer and it's sulk time.

Are you sure you're adjusting the tickover screw ferg? - I'm not familiar with your bike but having to adjust the tickover every time you get the engine running seems a little excessive maybe? Could it be the mixture screw you're adjusting?

hi gaz no it is definitely the tickover screw, I see somebody on here has to do the same , I watched a youtube video , how to start the bike, and he done the same strange, maybe I'm not , letting it heat up enough on choke, my old Hondas choke was ,thatyou started the bike on full coke then you could give it half choke it went down , by increments , but I canny do that with this , choke, its not the mixture screw, the plug and I know it only gives you , an indication was a nice color , when the bike has reached its normal tempwerature I can adjust the tickover screw, down to about 800 rpm but when its cold even with the choke out , its reluctant to start till I up the tickover screw abit , any body know what the small tube is ,coming from the cv carb its on the side ,its on the opposite side of the choke . I thought it was a drain hose but its too high up ,for that its well above the float bowl.
