I have been experimenting today and my results are as Deanobats says, put the bike on its center stand and run the engine for a few minutes you should see oil in the sight glass, switch off and wait a couple more minutes and you should see the level of oil in the glass, if you then put the bike on the side stand the oil will disappear from the glass as the bike is leaning over, if you then put the bike back on the center stand the oil will not return even after making and drinking a cup of tea or even pushing and shoving it about, the only way to get the oil to reappear again is to run the engine again on the center stand. I found my oil level a little high as I tend to use the side stand when I stop before using the center stand, I have adjusted my oil level and in future will only take notice of the sight glass after the engine has been run on the center stand to be honest it does say this in the handbook but gives no reason why, I hope this is not to long or confusing
