One of life's annoyances is something mechanical or electrical or both ceases to function, you take it to bits, find nothing wrong, put it back together again, and it works.

Well, Papasmurf, it makes a refreshing change from the more common tales you get of things that worked fine until they were taken apart and meddled with and no longer work! Regards, Paul.

Same thing as switching off and back on. It often does the trick.
Far from being annoyed I'm just grateful if the thing works.

Same with our TV; it would never start, then it would start if I fiddled with the main switch, eg, on, off, wait 20 seconds, on, off. This could go on for 10 minutes before finally would light-up and work. One day I decided to just leave it On for about half an hour before I wanted to watch it; well blow me down, after that time, it started up straight away. This method now works every time. There is obviously some trysistor in there which needs to warm up. I am not going to look for it until it completely conks out.

On the subject of things mending themselves here's a little story nearly on the same theme but it gives me an excuse (just) to tell you about a strange thing that happened to me a few weeks ago. I can assure you this is true and it left me believing in the supernatural!

I was working in my garage when I was called back into the house for a cup of tea and after a short delay I went back in doors but left the doors open as I couldn't find the remote control zapper. After drinking the tea I went back to the garage and carried on working on one of the bikes for another ten minutes or so and then finished completely and needed to close the doors fully. As usual, I couldn't find the remote. I looked in every pocket over and over again and checked everywhere in the garage but I couldn't find it so I thought I must have taken it and left it in the kitchen when I went in there for the tea. So, once again, I went back and looked everywhere, even looking inside the drawer where it's usually kept thinking I might have popped it back in there. No, it wasn't anywhere, so I had no choice but to go back to the garage and search in there again but after looking everywhere concluded I wasn't going to find it. I was now getting really annoyed with myself for being so absent minded and loosing things but all I could do was to go back indoors and try to find the spare one to use....Then, just as I walked out of the garage, the weirdest thing happened, the palm of my right hand suddenly became warm and I looked down and slowly opened my hand up....there was the zapper seemingly transported into my hand, it was the weirdest thing ever, I couldn't believe it as it was impossible that it had been there all the time since I had been using that hand to hold the cup of tea earlier and was fully aware of everything I had touched and looked at whilst doing the search, but now, out of the blue, it was sitting in my hand, it really had just materialised out of thin air. It was the most strangest thing you could imagine but that is exactly what happened....I know it's hard to believe but it did. Now I really do believe in the supernatural and parallel universes.

Not too sure about "super" natural but I'll go along with natural but not understood. Various "String" theories suggest between 10 and, I think, 29 dimensions so parallel universes are fairly likely, we just cannot travel between them or in time yet. This is a bit of a bugger given that we all wish we'd kept that Vincent or Goldie we had back in the day.

I find that (several) good slugs of whisky is very warming in my tea around that time of the year too........
