Hi All,

Had 5 minutes today so fitted the AirBox cover plate available from our hosts looks good and hopefully should help the old girl breath a bit harder.
Had a thought after that the airbox now needs more air so decided to modify my side panel hope you like the results. Amazing what you can knock up in the wksp when you are bored :-)

Still have the electrics cover plate to fit and the new stainless chain guard when I get another five minutes. Seat is also away getting re-covered to original spec with white piping and grey panels.

Next job cams and head work... hope you like the pictures from today

Close up of mesh holes.

I think it looks better than it probably works!

Nice job, looks cool.
I always thought that the filter worked better in still air, are you sure your design won't have a negative venturi effect at speed??
Could test open and closed i suppose..
I'll get my coat..

The new Triumph Bonneville range have copied me so I guess they checked it worked OK!!
To be honest I expect it to have no effect other than to look fast 😱 The air flow inside the side panel would have a greater effect and would need flowing.I have now disconnected the engine breather hose as well and fitted a crankcase breather filter so another hole to ponder over.

Finished the Airbox today by removing the crankcase breather hose and fitting a 12mm air filter to the crankcase.
I fitted a 12mm silicon cap to the hole left on the airbox and re-used the pipe clamp, these can be seen in the picture below just behind the electrics cover plate supplied by our hosts. No more nasty hot oily air being fed to my air filter assy any more. The silicon caps were bought from a well known online auction site and came next day and were good quality and fitted well.

While I was there I also fitted a stainless rear chain guard also available from our hosts, this fitted well and came with good instructions for those that are mechanically challenged.

I also fitted the stainless M16 x1.5 axle nuts, the front was easy but the rear required about three mm to be taken off the back on my lathe or the captive part was not on the thread.

Anyway enough of my ramblings just waiting for the seat to come back from upholstery and I will upload a picture.

Has anyone had an update on the billet head being made by someone as I am interested in that and also has anyone fitted the performance cams and what was the difference?

Cheers

That all seems to be coming together very nicely. I'd like to see a picture or two of the complete project..

Hi Exile,

Not a brilliant picture but it gives you a clue on progress so far. Now for more engine work ...!!!!

The billet head is being developed by a tuner in the USA, the posts under the name Ace Cafe on the American RE forum and the Midland Bullet Riders' forum over here.

The CGT airbox seems to operate in a similar way to the Watsonian-Squire modified airbox they sold with their Electra-X go-faster kit 10 years ago.
