Some might have read of my problems with a Super Motor that I rebuilt and could only get it to fire briefly with starter fluid. In disgust I pushed it into the corner of the shed and left it. Mate called over today and I said I would show him what it was doing. First kick it started up and runs fine, couldn't believe it

My guess is either it was desperate to please, or it was trying to show you up? I'd give it a long hard stare!

OK Norm, have you been able to repeat this feat since? Try it for a week, and if your Meteor fires up at least six days out of the seven, you have probably succeeded in shifting some elusive blockage from somewhere around the pilot jet. Failing that my suggestion of fitting an accelerator pump Dell'Orto might still be worth following up. A.

Hi Adrian, a long time ago I learnt to never push your luck so I put it back in the shed because Tony was a witness to the fact it started and that is good enough for me

Maybe it only starts on a Tuesday, or whatever day your friend came round?

They do that on purpose. It's a sort of reverse variation on Sod's Law.

The bike's likeliness to start is proportional to the number of onlookers when you don't need to ride it, but becomes inversely proportional when you do need to ride it.
