PeteF, a VERY skilled mechanic services all my wife and I's bikes. He services exotic machinery like MV Agusta.

He also test rides every bike he services.

I have never had a problem in the 30 years we have been using him.

Papa, I did say "lots of dealers" not "all dealers"

In the case of Harleys it appears that dealers who carry out a service as per the manufacturers instructions are as rare as rocking horse poo.
There is a basic problem with ALL motorcycle servicing in Britain in that formal training and qualification for motorcycle mechanics is next to non existent.

Well, our CX500 and Velorex 700 sidecar is now approaching 35 years old, and we have no intention of selling, it, the BMW K75S and Squire ST1 sidecar is approaching 25 years old and we have no intention of selling that either.

Our BSA Golden Flash has been with us for 16 years & had its' 64th birthday this week (the Canterbury sidecar chassis is about the same age) and the Bullet has been 20 years with us & was first registered 24 years ago.
Have we kept them too long?

No Bryan, not too long as long as you look after them properly these old bikes will probably outlast their owners, my oldest bike 70 years old and my youngest is now 12, most likely the 70 year old BSA will outlast the 12 year old Triumph rocketship.

If you like the Enfield thing then I too would recommend going for a later Classic, a bit more oomph, better brakes, electrics and suspension (comparing standard v standard of course) but still that Enfield feel and vibe. Dump the silencer for a shorter, nicer sounding one and much better looking one and job done.
If not Enfield but you still want a single then a Yamaha MT03 gives you a totally different take on big singles, a decent one can be had for not much more than £2k. Don't expect admiring glances though (from either bikers or non-bikers) like you probably get on your Ennie ; )
Have fun choosing

Maybe the thing to do is have a test ride of (eg) a used C5 or B5 Bullet and see if it's actually any better than your Electra-X, and if so, find out if a good trade-in is available. I think I'd want a better reason for parting with a good Electra-X (if it is a good one) than "it's ten years old". A.
