To support what Leon said: you can top it up with whatever oil you like, provided it's one of the approved types for this engine. ALL CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ENGINE OILS MIX without any harm at all. They are specifically designed to ensure that.



When it comes to *changing* the oil, you will get as many religiously-held opinions as there are subscribers to this forum!

Thack's right, any oil of roughly the right sae will do and certainly a small amount of the "wrong" oil will do no harm at all.
Mixing synthetic and mineral oil will also do no damage at all but you may, of course, loose the properties of the synth oil if you add too much mineral.
The only thing that was NOT ALLOWED and would quickly ruin an engine was mixing mineral and vegetable oil (castor based oils) but I don't suppose anyone uses them these days.

thanks for the input guys ive been talking to thunderbird 2 aka terry he gave me really good information on the to change the oils and what to use which oil filters and sump crush washers etc one guy on here said there are plenty of owners instruction manuals I'm probably not searching right but I cant see one for the thunderbird

fishermanferg, H's sell a Manual for the THUNDER Bird & AVL Engine !..Un healthfully Both My MANUAL's Just Have "Service Manual" on the Front and No title..Phone Them and ask They Do sell or Can G=t you One for well under a Tenner if i remember:..Cheers
