is everyone afraid of easystart? only me mentioned it! I know its a lst chance resort, but I've had good success with a reluctant engine, a dose of it gets it popping and banging and then pulls crap out of the carb and away you go!

pd110961, it isn't a case of being afraid of Easystart. Easystart is OK when an engine can be continuously cranked over, and for starting in extremely cold weather.
It also will not solve the problem of any blocked jets.

easystart, when sprayed onto a rag, is also good for putting a guard dog into a slumber! the things we did when we were young...

Hows the compression? Tappet too tight, valve recession, valve seat dislodged/damaged, holed piston.

What where the symptoms of the original breakdown?

Any engine needing "easystart" has a problem that needs to be addressed not ignored

Bryan while I agree with you that there is something wrong with a motor that needs easystart, for the 8 years I have had my Inter it is the only way it will start, you could kick it for a week and you won't get a murmer out of it without it. I have a can mounted permanently in the left hand toolbox and is directed into the manifold in front of the carb. Great safety device because nobody would ever be able to pinch it and ride off. Always gets a lot off attention and laughs when I go through the start up procedure when leaving the pub after our meetings. Anybody with any suggestions I would greatly appreciate

Norm,

where would anyone begin to diagnose an Easy Start-dependent Interceptor, especially one belonging to one of our more clued-up contributors who's probably tried all the usual things? Assuming you're not trying to start the thing on kerosene, or whatever fuel it is they brew from wombat droppings...

So for the purposes of elimination you've checked the ignition for sparks and timing (what have you got on there, magneto, points or electronic ignition?). If you have an old-style Amal Mk1 carby with the inaccessible pilot jet, bin it for the new Premier version, or a Mk2, or something non-Amal from Japan or Italy. Is there some hard-to-spot hairline crack somewhere on the inlet side permitting just enough of an air leak to make normal starting impossible?

Hi Adrian, many years ago in an attempt to fix this problem I replaced the K2F with a Pazon, no change, I replaced the Monoblock with a Concentric, no change, I went back to the Monoblock, new jets, slide, needle, no change, played the timing game back and forth, very easy with the Pazon, no change, Iridium plugs, worse. It starts first kick when hot, but cold it will make no attempt to fire or even a mumble without starter fluid. When it decides it wants to start it just starts and idles straight up. It doesn't bother me anymore it is what it is and I live with it
